Born in Canyon, Texas, Phillips worked in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the past 15 years. He will be taking over this October (2018) as the director of the Roswell Artist in Residence program. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Kansas City Art Institute (1996). and his Master of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico (2006).
Recent projects include murals for MuralfestABQ in Albuquerque (2018) and a room sized mural at Meow Wolf (2018). Larry Bob is also releasing a comic book Fracking Sandoval County coming out in October 2018.
Phillips works in the quintessential American drawing styles of the super hero comics and nature illustration and applies them to the classic American subject of the Western landscape. The electric images that result highlight the anxiety and awe that characterize our relationship to nature in the 21st century.
